Spandan Workshops

Free, online, hands-on creative workshops for middle and high-school students.

In response to COVID-19 lockdowns affecting kids and after-school programs, we initiated Spandan, a month-long online, hands-on, creative workshop series for middle and high-school students. The word “Spandan” comes from Sanskrit. It resonated with us, as it means heartbeat–a lifeline to learning during a pandemic. As part of the Spandan Workshops, we conducted 8 workshops with help from 6 facilitators for 5th to 12th-grade students. These workshops focused on fun and creative topics such as app development using the MIT App Inventor, character designing, programming with Scratch, designing circuits with Tinkercad, robotic programming concepts, etc. Facilitators working in the tech industry in North America led these workshops, and students from all over the world (some with parents) participated.

Outside of this project, we also conducted workshops for students of ShishukunjBhuj and UniqYOU schools in Gujrat, who approached us as they learned about this project. We plan to run another round of Spandan Workshops soon. In the meantime, if you or your school wants to request one of these workshops, feel free to reach out to us!
